Program Description

Advanced IV Therapy Techniques for RNs and other advanced practitioners. This specialized training course is designed exclusively for Registered Nurses (RNs) seeking to enhance their intravenous (IV) therapy skills with advanced procedures that are crucial yet not commonly taught in nursing schools. This program emphasizes IV skills that Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are not authorized to perform in the State of PA. Key Course Offerings: 1. Review of Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD): This module offers an in-depth examination of CVADs, including their types, uses, and management. Participants without prior experience with CVADs are strongly encouraged to enroll in our "Comprehensive IV Therapy for Nurses" course for foundational knowledge. 2. Safe Removal of PICC Lines and Midlines: Learn the correct and safe procedures for the removal of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC) and midlines, focusing on minimizing patient discomfort and preventing complications. 3. Accessing and Deaccessing Implanted Medication Ports: Gain hands-on experience in the techniques required to access and deaccess implanted ports used for medication delivery, a skill essential for supporting patients with long-term treatment needs. 4. Restoring CVAD Patency with Cathflo® Activase® (alteplase): Master the use of Cathflo® Activase® (alteplase) for restoring patency to central venous access devices, an advanced skill that can significantly impact patient outcomes. This can be performed by an RN, after proper training. So, no more need for LTC facilities to contract this service out. This course is a must-attend for RNs looking to expand their clinical capabilities and provide the highest level of care to their patients through advanced IV therapy techniques. Whether you're aiming to update your skills or fill gaps in your nursing education, this training will equip you with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to excel in the ever-evolving field of nursing. Check your state's requirements. Most states accept CEs from other SBONs or may be stated as a "Board of Nursing of another U.S. jurisdiction or territory and which is a member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing." This is the statement from the PA SBON, therefore these CEs would be acceptable for PA nurses. Note that Maryland, New Jersey, and Hawaii may not accept CEs from the FL State Board of Nursing.
