Program Description

Stand-Alone Course IV Therapy Techniques for RNs and other advanced practitioners. • This course is designed for RNs with prior experience in IV therapy, CVADs, and infusion therapy. RNs without sufficient experience should first complete the Comprehensive IV Therapy Training to build a strong foundation, then add on the RN IV Skills Training for hands-on competency. • Online and in-person Skills Training • 5 Nursing CEs This training program is designed to equip Registered Nurses (RNs) with the necessary knowledge and hands-on skills to perform advanced IV therapy and infusion procedures that fall outside the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the state of Pennsylvania. Key Course Offerings: Online Modules: 3 CEs 1. Legal and Professional Scope of IV Therapy for RNs and LPNs in PA 2. Review of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs) 3. Basic overview of CVAD care and Maintenance 4. IV Push medication administration 5. Patency and Restoring Patency to a CVAD with Cathflo® 6. Implanted Venous Access Port: Access and Maintenance 7. PICC and Midline Catheter Removal 8. Complications and Nursing Interventions 9. Infection Control and Safety In-Person Hands-on Skills Training Session: 2 CEs 1. Review and Identification of CVADs: PICC, midline, implanted ports, tunneled/non-tunneled catheters 2. Checking, troubleshooting, and restoring patency to a CVAD with Cathflo® (Alteplase preparation and administration) 3. Accessing and deaccessing a venous access port using aseptic technique 4. PICC and midline removal: Safe removal techniques and post-removal care This course is a must-attend for RNs looking to expand their clinical capabilities and provide the highest level of care to their patients through advanced IV therapy techniques.
